Glossary of Culture …

I am introducing a new feature to enhance the reading experience. It is The Glossary of Culture for Foreign Visitors to better understand the nuances that we will be dealing with until our return home. I will be adding to it occasionally as required.

While Frenchmen are willing to help you with directions they have their limits and if on the first 5 or 6 tries you can’t get the gist of what they are saying with their hand gestures and rapid-fire speaking they will abruptly turn away mumbling expletives. They would just as soon urinate on your bumper rather than put up with an IQ-deficient Anglophone. Of course in Quebec they only give you one try before they flip you off so this is an upgrade. Score one for the French.
The second thing I noticed is they assume that all English speakers are from the UK, unless you’re speaking very loud on your phone while wearing a Git-er-Done hat, University of Alabama sweatshirt and Air Jordans; then they know you’re American. Canadians are a non-entity as they have never
encountered any.
Another common site is to see people locked in a passionate embrace in any situation. Whether it’s on a train platform, back alley, or a balcony above a pet store these people like to lock lips and grope in public. It’s better than what people do back home which is to incessantly say ‘I’m sorry’in public.
